Next Saturday night, Solid Tokyo and Uki events will team up foranother special edition of Solid n Soul; this time celebrating thereturn of one of the greatest house DJs to emerge on the West Coast ofthe US: David Harness ! ! !
With over 20 years experience as a DJ in the world-wide house music scene,David Harness is indisputably a legend in San Francisco and the Westcoast . He is also one of the few West coast DJs, alongside Marques
Wyatt in Los Angeles, who has successfully pursued the more soulful NYhouse sound . He is highly regarded in the San Francisco gay scene,where he held a long-running residency at Club Universe throughout the1990`s, arguably one of the biggest gay venues in the world. His party own party Taboo – which ran for almost ten years – was a San Francisco institution which successfully crossed over to music lovers in both the deep house scene and city`s vibrant gay community. As a producer, David has released a string of acclaimed works for distinguished labels such as Loveslap and Nitegrooves. Recently, he has done several widely received remix projects for Defected, which has helped further establish his reputation internationally . He has also recently launched his own label Thread Music which will serve as both an outlet for his own productions as well as other talented producers in the soulful house scene . However, Davis is probably best known for his “bootleg” remix work of artists as diverse as Mary J Blige, Jill Scott, Robin Thicke, and Alicia Keys, which are now recognized as house music/garage classics. As a DJ, David is known for his versatility and ability to cross genre boundaries with his deep, soulful and sometimes tech-style sets. Regarded as a “DJ`s” DJ, David is endeared as one of the great house music DJs in the United States by fellow DJs such as Halo, Marques Wyatt, and Timothy Regisford . His set during his first appearance at Solid n Soul last year is highly regarded as one of the most creative two hours of house music ever featured at la Fabrique !
If that wasn`t enough, our second edition of Solid n Soul will take it to a higher level with another special guest who is something of a legend in house music circles: Miles Maeda ! ! !
Hailing from Hawaii – with his Japanese American roots – Miles established himself first in the Chicago house music scene, where he was part of the third wave of DJs in the city alongside his friends Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and DJ Heather. Later transplanting himself to the West Coast, Miles has built a career for himself as an accomplished producer with almost 30 original productions and remixes for labels as diverse as Aroma, Robsoul, Amenti, and Siesta . Recently he has launched his own label, Bopsa, which will showcase both his own productions as well as those of other prominent artists in the Chicago house community .
Miles Maeda has also established a unique niche for himself as a house music DJ/yoga teacher who has been making annual trips to Tokyo to play both Solid Tokyo and conduct various yoga workshops . Influenced
immeasurably by the principles and dynamic of his yoga practice, Miles` DJs sets are interwoven with deep, sensuous grooves very reminiscent of the deep relaxation and sense of serenity one experiences in yoga . His critically received late 90`s mix CD, “Paintings,” is still regarded as the perfect representation of this sound; to this day, “Paintings” is considered by many deep house DJs as one of the great house music mix CDs of all time .
